Nakshatra & Its Symbolism
Ardra is symbolically linked to the demon Taraka, whose story appears in the Shiva Purana.
Taraka was a devoted worshipper of Brahma. Through intense austerity and penance, he pleased Brahma and was granted a boon. Instead of asking for immortality, Taraka cleverly requested that he could only be killed by a seven-day-old child — an almost impossible condition.
After receiving this boon, he became arrogant and destructive, terrorizing the gods.
Eventually, he was slain by Kartikeya, the son of Shiva, exactly seven days after his birth.

Ardra represents the human mind, which operates in duality.
- When disciplined and aligned with righteousness, the mind becomes constructive, creative, and powerful.
